13. Catch Ladybugs and Grasshoppers
A belated apology to all the ladybugs and grasshoppers that I caught and kept as pets. It was just one of the cool things back then! Whoever feared insects grew to like them, and it became a contest for whoever could find and catch ladybugs and grasshoppers and keep them in their metallic or cloth pencil case.
Some of us were caring enough to put a piece of leaf and a twig inside the box for the grasshoppers to eat or for ladybugs to hide under. Hopefully they didn’t mind the dark! They were our pets… Until we go home to our cats and dogs.
