37. 1937: The Dalai Lama Aged 2

The 14th Dalai Lama was born in 1935 in Taktser, China, and his original name is Lhamo Dondrub. Each Dalai Lama is found through reincarnation – on the death of the current Dalai Lama, a search for the Lama’s yangsi or reincarnation takes place. It is usually the responsibility of the High Lamas or the Tibetan Government to find the reincarnation though the People’s Republic of China’s Government aims to be the only authority on selecting the next Dalai Lama. It took 4 years from the death of the 13th Dalai Lama for the current and 14th to be found.
