30. The Korean War
From 1950 to 1953, the Korean War was waged between North and South Korea. The US intervened under President Harry Truman and lost approcimately 390,000 ground soldiers in battle. Pictured here at some point in the fighting, two grieving US soldiers embrace and lament the loss of their comrades.

29. 1878: Lady Liberty
Before she found her home in New York City, the Statue of Liberty was on display at the Paris World Fair in 1878. Her head was the first part of the statue to be created, and she was completed in different stages over a period of 8 years. She arrived in the US in 1885 and was gifted by the French as a sign of friendship.
