26. 1937: The Hindenburg Disaster

May 6th, 1937, the Hindenburg attempted to dock in New Jersey. The passenger airship was carrying 97 people on board but erupted into flames and crashed to the ground. 35 people died in the fire as did one ground worker. The whole thing was caught on a newsreel Рthe film crew was hoping to catch the perfect landing.

25. 1978: Wayne Gacy and First Lady Rosalynn Carter

At the 1978 Polish Freedom Day Parade, First Lady shook hands and took a photo with the then respected businessman Wayne Gacy. 7 months later, 29 bodies of men and boys were dug up on Gacy’s property. He had raped and murdered them all, as well as 4 others. He was only able to meet the First Lady on clearance from the CIA, considering that he was sentenced to death, they musn’t have looked too hard to clear him.
